The Hungarian Tolkien Society proudly announces launching the \u201cQuendi\u201d category of the Tolkien Mailing Competition. It will be in English, open to any individual participant. In the course of the Competition you will face different challenges like quizzes, riddles and creative tasks. The five rounds of the competition will last from October to March. The application deadline is 29 of September, 2013. \n\"\"\"\"The Tolkien Mailing Competition (\u201cTLV\u201d abbreviated from its Hungarian equivalent \u201cTolkien Levelez\u0151 Verseny\u201d) takes place for the 8th time this year. In the previous years it was organised only in Hungarian, and only for Hungarians. Competitors were school groups of the 10\u201318-year-old. They competed in three categories of different difficulty level, called Hobbits, D\u00fanedain and Noldor. Every year we had more than a hundred participants from all over the country, who were interested in the world created by Tolkien. But now, for the very first time, we\u2019re going international!<\/p>\n

This new international category, called Quendi<\/strong> is open to individual participants between the ages of 15 and 35. Both the challenges and the communication will be entirely in English\u2014but don\u2019t be afraid! You won\u2019t need to be perfect in English to take part in the Competition. You only have to be able to understand the texts by Tolkien, and to write an essay\u2014it won\u2019t need to be of university level.<\/p>\n

\"\"Participation in the Quendi category requires a thorough knowledge of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion and perhaps The Children of H\u00farin. Some questions (riddles, quizzes, etc.) will refer to other works by Tolkien, but you will have about four weeks for each round, so you will have enough time to look up in the books everything you need.<\/p>\n

There will also be some creative challenges. For example, to describe a situation, write a short poem, make a drawing or take a photograph, etc. We would like to be proud of our participants, so we ask you to share the rights of your creative productions royalty-free. The best of your works\u2014with due credit to the authors\/artists\u2014might be published by the Hungarian Tolkien Society, e.g. on our website: www.tolkien.hu<\/span><\/strong>, or in our journal, the Lassie Lauri\u00eb.<\/p>\n

The contest starts in early October and continues until the end of March. Every month you will receive the questions of the next round, and you will have to submit your solutions until the indicated deadline. Communication will be via e-mail. We have two e-mail adresses for this purpose: tolkienlevverseny@gmail.com<\/span><\/strong> to send your solutions, tlv@tolkien.hu<\/span><\/strong> for registration, questions, and comments. We are happy to answer all your questions about the competition\u2014except disclosing the solutions of the actual tasks.
\nIn the international category there will be no prizes, only the honour of success publicly announced and a certificate via e-mail\u2014but in turn you don\u2019t have to pay any registration fee.<\/p>\n
